Aquatics

The Aquatics Department consists of over 100 student staff working in various pool locations. If you are interested in keeping the water safe, protecting people and teaching individuals how to swim, then this is your opportunity and Campus Recreation is the place to be! All proper swim certifications are required (Lifeguard certifications, CPR/AED Professional Rescuer certifications and First Aid certifications).

Student positions available include:

Lifeguard

  • Ensures member safety by providing patron surveillance, responding to emergency situations in accordance with established methods and procedures, and enforcing rules and regulations regarding pool activities. Maintains aquatic safety equipment by inspecting and reporting any repairs needed to the pool or other equipment installed as safety measures. Lifeguards may also assist and lead in aquatic instruction.

Head Lifeguard

  • Requires experience as Campus Recreation Lifeguard before applying for position.
  • Provides on-deck leadership to lifeguard staff and members by knowing departmental policies and procedures, ensuring lifeguard staff is actively involved in work-related activities and maintaining a high level of customer service. They will also act as a liaison between lifeguards and administration and assists with implementation of lifeguard trainings. They may also conduct other projects and duties as requested.

Aquatic Student Coordinator

  • Requires experience as Campus Recreation Head Guard before applying for position.
  • Provides day-to-day assistance to the Assistant Director of Aquatics by providing guidance to Head Lifeguards regarding policy enforcement. They will conducts operational projects such as payroll, implementation of in-service training, maintaining accurate records of pool usage and training, monitoring pool schedules and ensuring adequate coverage. This position will allow them to act as an extension of professional staff.

Learn-to-Swim Instructor

  • Provide swimming instruction following the American Red Cross learn-to-swim guidelines. They will also maintain safe and effective classes and fill out records to track the progress of students in class.

Learn-to-Swim Coordinator

  • Requires experience as Campus Recreation Learn-to-Swim instructor before applying for position.
  • Organize and implement the learn-to-swim program, ensure adequate staffing for all classes, and conduct instructor training. The position also includes communicating with instructors and participants, evaluating programs and developing reports to reflect evaluation results, future recommendations, and areas of success.
