Rental Policies
- Anyone may rent equipment from the Campus Rec Outdoor Center. University of Illinois Students and Campus Rec Members must show the appropriate picture ID to rent equipment at the member rate. All other renters must have a driver's license or social security card and a picture ID and will pay the nonmember rate.
- Reservations may be made up to two weeks prior to the date camping equipment is needed. The full amount must be paid at this time. No refunds will be given for cancelled reservations. However, credit will be given to be used for future rentals.
- Allow 15-20 minutes for checking out equipment. It is the responsibility of the renter to check rented equipment to be sure it is all there and in good condition. If something is missing or in need of repair, the Outdoor Center Facility Management Representative must be notified so it can be recorded before taking the equipment out. If for some reason the renter fails to inspect the equipment, he/she is still held responsible for damaged or missing equipment upon its return.
- Each renter of equipment must sign a liability statement when checking out the equipment. The user agrees to pay for any damages or loss of equipment and also agrees not to hold the University, Campus Rec and its employees, or the State of Illinois responsible for injuries, accidents, or other mishaps which may occur while using the equipment.
- A limit of two of each type of equipment may be reserved and checked out per person. Any group desiring more equipment than the above limit will have to have one or more individuals rent additional equipment separately under their name. All individuals of a group must be present with ID to reserve, check out, and return equipment. Failure to follow the above policy will result in a $10 service charge per item.
- Equipment must be returned on the due date (30 minutes before closing) or late fines will be levied. Upon returning equipment, the equipment must be checked and displayed by the renter to the Outdoor Center Facility Management Rep. Please allow 20 minutes or more for this. Late, damaged, or wet/dirty fines are assessed at this time and must be paid immediately. Fines are steep in hope that equipment will be returned on time and in good condition so that others who have reserved the gear will not be inconvenienced. No equipment will be checked in after 20 minutes prior to closing time. It is the renter's responsibility to check the hours of the Outdoor Center.
- Fines: Late fines vary according to equipment type and the number of days late. Specific costs are listed along with the rental rates. Late fines are accrued on a daily basis including Sundays and Holidays. Lost, damaged or wet/dirty fines are as follows: should equipment be lost or damaged beyond repair the renter will be charged the current replacement cost + 5%; fines will be assessed for damage to equipment at the cost of repair + 10%; the return of wet or dirty equipment fine will be $5-$20; the loss of equipment pieces and/or parts is the replacement cost + 5%. Fines not paid when equipment is returned will be charged to the renter's student account, member account or credit card.
- Deposits are required from all renters for bicycles ($100) and for all boats ($300). For non-members, a $50 deposit is required for all equipment rentals. Deposits are to be made separately from the rental fee by cash or credit card. Deposits are withheld if the equipment is damaged or has lost/missing parts. An appropriate fine or the replacement cost will be charged to the renter. The deposit will be held until these fees are determined by the Outdoor Adventures Program Director and subsequently paid.
